How to Extend Your Egypt E-Visa

The Egypt e-visa system simplifies the visa application process, making it quicker and more convenient. Instead of waiting in long queues or making appointments at embassies or consulates, you can apply online. The process involves filling out an application form, uploading required documents, and paying the visa fee online. Completing the application takes just about fifteen minutes, eliminating travel expenses and other hassles.

The e-visa is available for tourism and comes in two forms:

Can You Extend Your E-Visa?

Yes, you can extend your e-visa if your travel plans change. Extensions are available for tourist visa holders through two methods:

  1. Renewing from Outside Egypt

    • If your e-visa is about to expire, you can leave Egypt and apply for a new visa from your home country or any other location. The process is usually quick, with a maximum wait time of 3 days. There is no limit to the number of e-visas you can apply for as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. To renew, fill out the application form, answer security questions, choose the visa type, pay the fees with a debit or credit card, and upload your passport’s bio page.

    Documents Needed:

    • A digital copy of your valid passport
    • A valid debit/credit card
    • An active email address
  2. Extending While in Egypt

    • To extend your e-visa while in Egypt, you must visit the Egyptian Passports, Immigration, and Nationality Administration office in person. Locations include the Police Academy in Abbasiya, Cairo, and the Mugamma Building in Tahrir Square, Cairo. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, with Fridays off, and the Mugamma Building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Documents Needed:

    • A valid passport
    • The existing e-visa
    • Cash for visa extension fees
    • Your current address in Egypt
    • A passport-sized photo

The process typically involves two visits: the first to submit documents, pay fees, and have your biometrics taken; the second to pay any additional processing fees and collect your extended visa, issued as a Foreign Residence Card.

What If You Overstay Your Egypt E-Visa?

Overstaying your visa can lead to fines or even a travel ban. The fines vary based on how long you overstay:

Fines are paid at the airport when leaving Egypt. Due to busy airport conditions, plan to arrive early to ensure you have enough time to pay the fine, clear customs, and board your flight.
